Protect your floor
A revolutionary foil that provides superior wear resistance without increasing the thickness of the wear layer. An easy solution to make your resilient floors last much longer.
Topshell
Superior wear resistance for LVT, SPC, and WPC floors
Traditional wear layers in resilient flooring often range from 0.3-1 mm in thickness. A thicker layer may increase the wear resistance of a floor panel, but it also decreases the clarity of designs while adding to your material costs.
The solution is Välinge’s Topshell, which makes it possible to produce a wear layer as thin as 0.2-0.3 mm with the same protection properties as a standard 0.5 mm layer. This enables a range of benefits – for both you as a flooring producer as well as the end-users of the product.
Stronger, thinner
Superior wear resistance in a thinner layer
Production simplicity
Requires no changes to existing resilient flooring production process
Improved flooring appearance
Increased clarity through thinner wear layer
Better resource efficiency
Material savings for improved sustainability
HOW IT WORKS
Proven improvements in flooring wear properties
Topshell involves adding hard particles to a wear layer made typically from PVC or other thermoplastic materials. Taber abrasion testing (SS-EN 16511:2014) has shown that this improves wear properties without an increase in thickness. In some cases, it may even be possible to increase the durability of the floors with a thinner wear layer.
With a thinner wear layer, the consumption of raw materials can be reduced, shrinking both costs and environmental footprint. At the same time, a thinner wear layer improves the quality of the flooring designs, giving the products a new way to stand out in a crowded market.
Best of all, you can apply a layer with Topshell with the same processes you use today. Traditional UV coatings with your existing formulas can be used, ensuring the floors to retain scratch and stain-resistant properties.
